There’s no question, this should be the season for self-care! It’s important all year round, but especially during the winter months. We may find ourselves less active, stressed and a bit run down as we head into the festive season. So, take a little time to try some of these things which may help you to keep the right balance.
Include Yourself In The Season of Giving
Whilst it’s the season of giving and thinking about all your loved ones, make sure that you look after number one first! That’s what the season of self-care is all about. A bit of ‘me time’ is essential for relaxing your mind and destressing. Give yourself the break you deserve, whether it’s in the form of a pamper evening, a break from work or childcare, or just a day to yourself. Whilst you’re thinking of buying presents for everyone else, consider treating yourself with a little reward for everything you’ve done and achieved this year. We all deserve a present for ourselves too!
Wrap-Up and Go Outside
It’s easy to stay cosy indoors throughout the winter months but a brisk walk outside can do you the world of good! Wrap up warm, grab a hot chocolate with a friend and get those steps in! If walking isn’t your thing, look up local outdoor activities in your area and make a day of it. Fresh air and some gentle exercise should be a priority for your self-care this winter.
Make Some Festive Plans
Spare some time to connect with friends and family, it’s the perfect time to make some festive memories. However, it can be a very busy season, so don’t feel pressure to always be out and about – a sofa day is perfectly acceptable as a plan! Whatever you make plans to do, ensure you’re doing things that will bring you joy. You can also use your time to plan your goals and ambitions for the future or take up a new hobby.
Take Time Out For Self-Care
Dedicate a bit of time to unplug from your phone and social media or any other external stresses that might be weighing on you. During the colder months it’s easy for our screen time to shoot up, so be mindful of this as part of your self-care this winter. Some great alternatives to scrolling through your phone could be reading, doing a puzzle or playing board games with your friends and family.
Make It The Season For Eating Well
I know what you’re thinking… the festive season = hearty meals and sweet treats! There’s no problem with indulging and enjoying yourself, just spare a thought for your mind every now and then. What you eat can have a huge impact on how you feel, so it’s a good time to practice ‘everything in moderation! Enjoy some home cooking and treat yourself, your friends and your family to some new recipes. Make sure you’re getting the nutrients in to take care of your mind and body.
